Clay can purify, cleans, invigorates, heals, softens and nourishes any type of skin. Simple of use and inexpensive, this “miraculous earth clay” is known and recognized for millenia. The Egyptians employed it for the mummification, the Chinese, the Greeks, the Romans knew also its remarkable virtues, the Dioscoride Greek allotted “to an extraordinary force”… in Tunisia also our ancestors used it as a shampoo while the soap did not exist.
Proved Virtues of clay:
The virtues of clay are numerous, for internal or external use, it has special absorbing properties but it is also disinfectant, it has anti-inflammatory properties, cleaning, healing, mineralizing, lenitive and more. Clay has many colors; Green , White (kaolin), Red , Yellow, Brown , Pink...however there is an effective one, known for its washing properties and available only in North Africa it is  the “Ghassoul” or “rhassoul” also known as  “TFAL” ( which mean literally Clay).

Colors of clay properties and effects

Being known as that clay is an earthy sedimentary rock made up of hydrated aluminium silicate, resulting from “the feldspar” decomposition (mineral species). Its therapeutic properties and its colour are function of many minerals (in particular silica, aluminium, magnesium, calcium, iron, cogitate, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc, selenium, cobalt, manganese…) which contains in variable proportions. Thus, clay can be green, white, red, yellow, pink, blue…

White clay
also called Kaolin has a strengthening effect. It is appropriate for the dry and delicate skins thanks to its mineralizing capacities. In capillary mask it nourishes and revitalizes the dry and delicate hair… very soft white clay can be used on all the skins even very sensitive. It is also used as talc for babies. Rich in Silica in particular, it is re-mineralizing and supports the elimination of toxins.
Green clay
is especially intended for the fatty skins. It is able to absorb excesses of sebum and to control its production as well on the skin as on the scalp. A mask on an acne skin will have a draining action. Oily skin often appears shiny and somehow not clean, and the pores often seem too large. The excessive production of sebum (i.e. oil) coupled with perspiration can create the ideal environment for bacteria. Once in the pores, the bacteria can cause pimples, spots, blackheads, acne and “bad skin” in general.
The deeper cause of this skin problem is sometimes hormonal (puberty, for example), a poor diet containing excess fat, excessive alcohol consumption or stress. Although not so well known, digestive problems are often found to be the cause of this skin problem as poor digestion can alter the fat metabolism of the skin.

  • deeply cleanses the skin
  • purifies and detoxifies the skin
  • normalises lipid metabolism (i.e. the production of oil)
  • soothes the skin and encourages normal balance
  • promotes healthy, beautiful and clean skin
    Red Clay

It owes its colour to iron oxides, rich in trace elements. What to support blood circulation and to give again luminosity to the skin. It cleans and purifies also the skin by removing it from its impurities. Ideal for the sensitive or dry skins.

    Pink clay.
Lenitive it has at the same time the virtues of white clay and red clay. It acts effectively on the irritated skins and nourishes them in-depth.

    Yellow clay
is regenerating and contains primarily manganese. This last stimulates the production of collagen and iron allowing a better oxygenation of the cells. It is also anti-wrinkle natural and excellent revitalizing capillary for the weakened hair. It is also recommended to attenuate the pains. Mineral rich one, it stimulates, and invigorating.
“Modern medicine rediscovers the vital properties of this curative clay”
Clay, its curative properties, Clay is a “
intelligent remedy”. It moves where the aches and problems are; finds the exact place where illness is located, it concentrates there and destroys it…
For internal use, it absorbs and drains the unhealthy cells preserving the healthy one. For external use, it attracts the impurities, supports the cicatrisation and stimulates blood circulation.

    ** Great Absorbing ability:
Clay absorbs very effectively the impurities, the toxic substances and malodorous. Thanks to its properties (absorbing and deodorant) it is in particular used by oil industry and oil canner “to purify the gasoline and to deodorize certain raw materials”. At home, clay can be used to deodorize and cleanses linens and objects… Bactericide, it can make healthy a polluted water.
    ** Healing and disinfectant:
Clay is effective healing thanks to aluminium silicate it contains. On wounds, clay has a disinfecting action and supports the reconstitution of injured fabrics.
    ** Stimulative and regenerating:
Clay reinforces defences of the organization and assistance to the regeneration of our cells. It “awakes” our energy resources and “reloads us” in positive and vital energy.

Special notes ; clay as a cure
Causes of Gastritis and Peptic Ulcers :
An inconsistent diet and poor nutrition, a weak immune system (for example from smoking or alcoholism), the long-term use of certain medications (e.g. some pain medications or anti-inflammatories) as well as lasting and unresolved stress can all lead to dysfunctional function of the stomach. When this happens, the stomach wall can be attacked by the stomach acid and this can lead to the development of an inflammation, also known as gastritis. If this inflammation goes untreated, it can lead to a local defect in the lining of the stomach (i.e. a peptic ulcer). Bacteria can play a large role in the development of both gastritis and peptic ulcers. It has been found that the bacteria “ Helicobacter pylori “ is responsible for more than 75% of cases of gastritis and peptic ulcers. Then clay protects the gastro-intestinal mucous membrane. It forms a true gastric bandage which by its silica content empower absorptive effect making possible to limit acidity.

Ghassoul! rhassoul! or also "T'fal" is our specific Clay

“Ghassoul, rhassoul, rassoul, or Tfal” is a natural marl, available in the Atlas mountain chain and in Tunisia. Used by our ancestors to clean hair and body. It is an essential element of the culture of the hammam. A must for young people who prepare the marriage.
Composed of calcium and aluminium, iron, magnesium, silica ions, its washing action is completely different from that of a shampoo or soap. Ghassoul absorbs the particles of grease and impurities, the dead cells and dust, it
is excellent strengthening for hair. Recommended for the oily hair, it degreases without pickling nor to damage, cleanses the scalp and controls the secretion of sebum while reviving the brilliance of the hair
Care of the face: To clear up the tone and to soften the skin. anti-wrinkle and anti-aging.
Care of the body: Ghassoul softens the skin, reduces the secretion of sebum, regenerates your skin by gumming its dead cells and balances it by tightening its pores. Your skin will be thus soft and gloss.
    Among the therapeutic properties of Ghassoul: it is seen effective in case of obesity, and thinning cure, depresses and tiredness for those suffering of trace element deficiencies, certain problems of skin of which the Psoriasis, osteoarthritides and rheumatisms, neurologic affections (hemiplegic, paraplegia,…) and circulatory (heavy legs, after-effects of phlebitis and oedemas,…);
Ghassoul cleans carefully and in-depth. It replaces the traditional shampoo or freezing-showers it by a softer washing. Moreover it gives an inflating astonishing allure to the hair.
Usually Ghassoul is offered in the form of powder, more sparing, with which you can create your own applications.
This washing powder is indicated for the sensitive scalps and in particular for fatty hair or in the presence of films.
Ghassoul guaratees a washing without hydrolipidic destruction of film thanks to the absence of detergent agent. In a bowl, mix the TFAL (Ghassoul) with tepid water until obtaining a creamy paste. Then apply it by massing the wet hair and/or the body, let it act a few moments then rinse.
